Important Reminders for this Hurricane Season

June marks the start of hurricane season and while we’re looking forward to bright and sunny, summer days ahead, hurricane prep is an essential part of summer in the Southwest to protect your Robalo boat.

Maintain a list of important phone numbers including county emergency centers, evacuation sites, banks, insurance providers, and an out of town contact. Ensure that you have the telephone numbers of the U.S. Coast Guard, Harbor Master, National Weather Service your insurance agent, and keep them on hand in case of emergencies. Update your hurricane preparedness list and purchase needed supplies. Don’t forget things like:

  • Flashlights
  • Weather Radio
  • First Aid Manuel and Kit
  • Insurance Cards
  • Bank Numbers
  • Credit Cards
  • Personal Documents

Consolidate all records including insurance policies, recent photos, boat registration, equipment inventory, and the lease agreement with your marina or storage facility. Have you reviewed your insurance policy? You'll typically find that your insurance policy provides coverage for wind and flood damage. Read over your policy and reach out to your agent to learn about any situations where your boat may not be covered.

Make sure your boat is safely docked or in storage. Cover lines and wrap them up with tape, rags and rubber hoses, or leather. Install fenders, fender boards, or tires to protect the boat from rubbing against your pier, pilings, or other boats. Remember to fill up your gas tank, charge the battery, and consider adding back-up batteries. Just don’t forget to shut off all devices that consume electricity aboard before a storm. As always, consult your owners' manual for additional information and storm readiness tips.
